He kept his door open so I kept my door open all afternoon and evening.

He lives right across the hall.

I played my music loud and spent a lot of time cleaning right in plain sight.

I made several unnecessary trips to the garbage disposal hoping he would stop me and say hi.

I paused before I reached his doorway as I came off the elevator, thinking about commenting on the music he was playing (“Nice song choice!”) but that would lead to a conversation about a band I only kinda like.

He’s younger than I am and I will not get over that—ever.

If my suitemate was home today, she would’ve convinced me to say hello. Although, if she were home today I wouldn’t have left the door open.

It’s not a crush. He’s cute and really nice and he thinks I’m sweet. I’m a sucker for attention. Call it what you want. It’s nice to be smiled at by someone adorable.

I thought about leaving an anonymous note on one of the many post-its on his message wall saying, “On those rare occasions when I leave my door open, you can say hello you know.” but that’s pathetic and something a middle schooler would do.

Did I mention that he’s probably gay?
